My kids really loved this one, and the vivid colors even caught my toddlers attention. She doesn't watch a lot of tv yet and won't take a second glance at many cartoons but she will actually sit and watch this one! My boys liked it too which was another shock. Each episode starts off with the Pteranodon family announcing a new field trip where they will introduce a new species. Since they use the scientific words for each dinosaur, there were a lot of long words that the kids didn't understand but it didn't seem to bother them at all. This one is a definite new favorite in my house and is entertaining & educational for all ages!

The Penguins of Madagascar ~ Happy King Julien Day! {Review}

I knew that my kids liked the original Madagascar movie, but I didn't know how much they loved watching the tv series The Penguins of Madagascar! When I told them we were going to review Dreamworks newest dvd; Happy King Julien Day they were extremely happy about it and asked me everyday if it had came in the mail yet. When it did come they watched it that day, and then watched it a couple more times in the days following.

Happy King Julien Day was released on August 10th and features eight Julien filled missions in tribute to the wacky king of the jungle:

We don't have cable tv, so the kids only get to watch their favorite tv shows when they are at Grandma's house. Neither my husband nor I had watched The Penguins of Madagascar before but we both really enjoyed it and laughed out loud at several different scenes. As I said, the kids loved it and have already watched it multiple times and I am sure they will be watching it again soon.

New To The Zoo which was also just released showcases eight episodes that each introduces a new character to the zoo. We didn't get to review this one, but both DVD's have an 88 minute runtime and have a suggested retail for under $14usd each so is definitely an affordable option to consider for a fun and entertaining family night.

We don't have cable TV anymore, and my kids have watched all of their DVDs many times so they were pretty excited to get something new to watch! Balloonatiks: The Collectors dvd Set includes the first two episodes of the long awaited addition to The Balloonatiks catalog.

The Balloonatiks is a CGI-animated series and merchandise brand, with two paperback books, a series of comics and games and an interactive website. The series features voice talents of renowned actors such as Mark Hamill, Debi Derryberry (Jimmy Neutron) and Billy West (Futurama). The theme song is performed by Ray Parker Jr., who is famous for writing the Ghostbusters theme song! You can find a variety of entertaining features as well as other merchandise in their online store.

The Balloonatiks are were five ordinary teens who are mysteriously transformed into rubbery and bouncy balloons, each gifted with incredible abilities from their unique personalities. The characters include:

• Flator - the school jock, is able to grow to massive sizes
• Airbrain - the smartest kid in school, can use his giant head as a hot air balloon
• Squeeker - the popular cheerleader, uses her high-pitched cheers to paralyze bad guys
• Sparky - the multi-talented activist, can stop opponents with in their tracks with lightening bolts
• Bouncer - class clown and food lover, can transform into any kind of ball and bounce to amazing heights

The supporting cast includes Leaky, a frog-turned-balloon mascot; Professor Swellhead, mentor and creator of the Balloonatiks; and Dr. Poppemoff, the evil mad-scientist out to take over Hot Air City.

My boys (9 & 10) didn't actually enjoy The Balloonatiks like I thought they would. They didn't really give me a good reason why, but it could be that they are used to watching full length movies with much more action. They were also a little annoyed at how many times the characters used their catch phrase, "Hubba hubba, we're made of rubber" throughout the show. Either way I thought it was entertaining and my 5 year old liked it a lot. My 18 month old was also laughing quite a bit and seemed to love it! The DvD is only 22 minutes long so is a good one to put on when you need a few minutes to get ready to go out, but don't have enough time for a full movie.

Dark fantasy and horror are my favorite types of books. Especially when they are written so well that I don't want to put the book down! The Second Coming fit that description perfectly, other than it only being available as an ebook. I don't own an ereader and unfortunately I had to read it on my computer, so even though it took me longer to read it was still well worth it!

The author, David H. Burton put so much detail into this book. The characters, the scenery, the plot; all entwined together with an unbelievable depth. Nymphs, Demons, Ghouls and magic made this a very thrilling story that I will be reading again (while I hope for a sequel)!

This one is more my style than my husbands, but if your husband likes dark and detailed apocalyptic and paranormal fiction - this might be the perfect unique gift for Fathers Day!

The book was also chosen for a Goodreads group discussion in July!
