~ Shushybye ~ Review and Giveaway!

Giveaway has ended!
The winner is miss_kris with number 5!
Pending email confirmation

When nighty-night comes
We close our eyes
To dream our dreams
From Shushybye....

I have personally never understood the appeal of buying CD's of children's music. Most of the music CD's I heard being sold on TV (when we had it) drove me crazy, and my kids practically begged for them! I did end up buying one CD for my boys, but that's it. They seem to enjoy the music I play, so we left it at that.

I received the Shushybye Sleepover Surprise book for review, but I also received the Close Your Eyes book because I won it from another blog giveaway. They are both wonderful books and I decided to talk a little about each of them.

The books each come with a read and sing along CD that is very easy for your child to understand and follow. This is also the first read along that my daughter has had and she has been having lots of quiet reading time with it!

In Close Your Eyes, twins, Leo and Leona stay awake past their bedtime playing and missing out on their dream boxes and Snoozles the Shushy is sent to find out what the problem is. He explains to the twins that when they miss their bedtime, they also miss their Shushybye Dreams! The twins and their parents are then taken on a trip to Shushybye to learn where their dreams come from.

In Sleepover Surprise, Leo and Leona are having a sleepover at Grandmas house and their wish to dream about Shushys Snoozles and Dozie comes true when they get to travel to Shushybye with their Grandma! They meet Rockin' Shushy and learn that you don't need a special occasion to be nice to your friends.

The books both have very cute stories and work quite well in teaching your child the importance of bedtime and helping others! They are also made with safe, nontoxic, glow-in-the-dark covers!

My daughter also loves the Shushybye and Goodnight CD which is a collection of 16 original Shushybye songs! She will play it over and over, and surprisingly enough - it didn't drive me crazy! No squeaky irritating voices, no sounds that make you want to cover your ears and scream. Just music, with a nice fun flow from one song to the next.

My daughter has enjoyed listing to this CD during the day, dancing around and singing along and she has also listened to it while she is going to bed. She does seem to try to stay awake as long as she can at bedtime for this one, just so she can listen to all the songs but it does keep her in bed and most nights she was asleep before it ended. It is quite obvious that my children have been missing out and I will now be getting them more music CD's to have fun with!

The only downside, which is more of a personal thing, is that with the music on my baby wants to go into the bedroom and see what is going on so she ends up keeping my older daughter awake. I should be getting a night light soon, so will be able to see how much better it works with her door closed so her sister isn't bugging her.

See Shushybye live!

The Seashore ~ A CD to Help Children Sleep

I have been having a hard time getting my 5 year old to bed on a regular routine, so I will be featuring several bed time themed products over the next several weeks while I attempt to get my daughter to bed earlier. The first I will be writing about are two very different CD's. This one is The Seashore which is made and sold by Rachael and Charles Vald.

My daughter can be very hyper, and very imaginative. Some nights she doesn't want to go to bed because she will miss her "pets" (her toys) so was happy to have the chance to review The Seashore and see how it would help her. It is well known that white noise such as the peaceful sounds of the ocean can work wonders on lulling you to sleep. Pair these sounds with a calm and inviting voice, and you've got what sounds like the flawless combination. A very gentle guided meditation aiding a better nights sleep.

The CD arrived very quickly from the UK, and that night I played it for my daughter after going through our normal routine. I expected her to come out of her room as usual, but I was amazed that it actually put her to sleep before it had even finished playing! The first night! I almost didn't know what to do with all the extra time I had without her coming out of her room for hours after hours.

Since that first night, there have been some nights where it didn't get her sleeping right away. Usually when she was already a little too hyper to stay in bed and actually pay attention to the CD. On those nights, she would come and ask me to play it again, and by the time it would be done playing for the second time she would be asleep. I'd say she has fallen asleep with the first playing about 3/4 of the time...which is still a huge improvement from it taking 2-3 hours to get her to calm down!

The Seashore begins much the same way many adult relaxation CD's do, where the hypnotist tells the listener to concentrate on relaxing each muscle starting from the toes to the head. To make it easier for children to understand, instead of telling them to relax, Charles tells them to imagine their favorite color surrounding each muscle.

This is an excellent choice that I would happily recommend if you are having troubles with your child at bedtime, and is available to purchase on CD or a digital download from Hypnosis Healthcare where you can choose from CD's such as Baby Sleep and Sleep Relief for those with insomnia plus many more from nail biting to anger control.

They offer free shipping of their CD's to UK, Guernsey, Jersey, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Holland, and everywhere else in Europe - and full refunds if you aren't happy for any reason! Post a relevant comment on this review or about something you would like to try from Hypnosis Healthcare and receive an extra entry into all my giveaways!

Do you have a hard time getting your kids to bed?

The lights are never out early at my house. The boys aren't too bad and are usually asleep by 9, but my 5 year old still gets out of bed constantly at bedtime. I have a couple reviews/giveaways to post soon on bedtime themed things, and some more coming up after that but I would also like some advice.

What have you tried at bedtime, that actually worked for a high energy 5 year old ?

Here is a break down of our regular routine:

I start off with brushing her hair and teeth, washing her hands and face and getting her into her pajamas. Then she gets to pick a book while I get the boys into bed, and looks at it a little by herself until I make it to her room. I will read the book to her, sing her a song, cover her up and leave the room.

You would think at this point all should be good, the kids are in bed, Mom can get the house tidied up and reviews written...but NO. She gets out of bed. Over and over. One reason after the other for hours and hours and sometimes until midnight or later! This is also keeping the baby up and hyper, and I'm lucky if I get her to sleep by 1 or 2am!

The two product reviews I am working on, are actually helping a lot and she isn't getting out of bed as much. But bedtime is still later that I would like it. I would love to have her in bed by 8 and asleep by 8:30.

I know I am at fault too, and guilty of serving dinner late many evenings. I find if I give them dinner at 6, they are complaining they are hungry at 8 and a snack doesn't seem to fill them. So I usually give them a snack around 5 if they ask for one, and dinner around 7.

Do you think it is my bedtime routine? The later dinner? Do you have any advice or product reccommendations ? Please share! If you are having trouble too, be on the lookout for my upcoming reviews!
