Keeping your kids safe online is always a difficult task, but even with parental controls we still may not know who they have made friends with or if those friends are who they claim to be. My Secret Circle is a diary for girls age 8-12 which gives them a special place to record their thoughts, experiences, and photos in an online social network that is only open to selected friends.
Each user can create their own profile with a Diva Designer avatar tool and All-About-Me pages and their online journal can be kept private or public for friends to read. They can chat with their friends through instant messaging or buy a separate headset in order to use voice chat. Other features include games and an extensive photo section which allows girls to upload photos, add text and create slide shows.
My Secret Circle is a Plug'n-play USB key that girls can plug in where ever there is a computer with Internet. Each USB comes with it's own unique ID code and only those who know the code and have their own USB will be able to connect with your child. Since the codes are embedded into the product itself, girls never need to upload personal information online. It is impossible to embed links to other websites or browse online when a My Secret Circle key is plugged into the computer.
I received the My Secret Circle B.F.F. pack for review which includes two access keys and retails for around $19.99. Single keys are also available to purchase for around $12.99 and both are available from Amazon.com and Target stores. I think this is an excellent product for tween girls but wish that there was a similar product for boys. My daughter is turning 6 next month, but is still a little too young for this one yet. Please check out the video and take a look around their website if you would like to learn more about My Secret Circle.
