Children have a strange fascination with money as soon as they know what it is. Finding a penny is sometimes a very exciting thing for them at a young age! I find that while my kids know what money is, they still don't know the value of it or the importance of earning it, and spending it wisely.

A brand new children's series, Aron With one A was designed for children ages 4-8 just to help with this very problem! It meets national standards and guidelines in personal financial management, economics, math and English. Each of the 20 books will address different personal-finance topics.

I received the first book in the series, Something for Savvy to review and let each of my kids read/look at it on their own before reading it to them myself. Something for Savvy is intended to teach children about saving their money and I think the authors did a wonderful job!

My oldest son told me he learned that he should be saving his money to buy the things he really needs, but he did find the book boring. My other son didn't have much to say about the book, but he is already surprisingly good with his money. They are both a little older than the targeted age group, so I wasn't too worried about them not enjoying the book as much. The real test was with my 5 year old daughter.

My daughter really enjoyed it, and when it was finished she said "So that's how I make money-chores?Thats easy!" It isn't as though I have never asked her to do a chore for money, but hearing it from a book that she liked somehow helped it get through to her a little more. I suppose she will eventually learn that it isn't quite so easy to earn money, but it's a good start. I would highly recommend this series if you have a child who is having trouble understanding how to manage their money!
