{Cool for School} Journal Buddies

Have you ever written a daily journal? Have your children? My kids have written journals at school, but they have never done one that they wanted to do for fun. I have tried giving them blank notebooks and suggesting that they start writing about their daily activities, and while they might have written in it a few times they just couldn't keep interest. I don't blame them - I gave up writing in my own journal for the same reason.

Most journals are simply a book filled with blank pages...but Journal Buddies are much more. These books strengthen self-esteem, build healthy relationships, and encourage creativity in girls and boys, ages 7 – 12.

With the Journal Buddies book, you take the simple and fun self-esteem building activity of sharing what you admire and love about your child and you make the time to formalize this experience and record it in a journal. You do this once a day for 30 days.

Journal Buddies is no ordinary journal book. It is an experience – an unforgettable and lasting experience about sharing, creating, expressing, and improving self-esteem. Best of all, these books give kids a core self-esteem experience that lives inside of them forever.

My Review: I received the Boys version of Journal Buddies for review and am looking forward to filling it out with my son. That's right, unfortunately we haven't filled it out yet. I took a quick look through the book, then I gave it to my son to look through. I asked what he thought and he said it looked like fun, except for one thing - At the beginning of the book are spaces where you add "Date Started" and "Date Finished" and he did mistakenly thought that this meant he had to go on a date, with a girl. Once I cleared that up with him that it only meant the date that you started filling out the journal and the date you finished he agreed that we should work on the journal together since we haven't been doing enough with just the two of us. So what's the problem then? I haven't seen the book since I gave it to him! He said he had it in his room, and I am hoping he didn't take it and leave it at a friends, but we haven't found it yet. (Sorry Jill!)

With that said, I did look through the book enough that I would have no problems recommending it. When our kids get older, and especially when there are multiple children in the home, we do drift apart and I thought this would be a fun way to close that gap between my son and I. Even if this isn't a problem in your house, your child can choose anyone they like to fill out the journal as their Buddy. It can be a friend, another relative, or maybe even their teacher (If they are willing).

Studies show that low self-esteem is at crisis levels in girls and that only 15% of us have sufficient self-esteem to achieve our dreams.

I was reading an area about self esteeem and found this:
"We don’t have control over what others think of us, but we do have every bit of control as to how we deal with it. One of the best ways to deal with our emotions and reinforce our belief in our talents is to write about these things in our journal."

THIS looks like something that can be used or encouraged for any age. CAN I USE ONE MYSELF????

I have several kids who might benefit from this. Daily journal writing really CAN work out feelings and there are SO many to work out at these ages!

thanks much!

I enjoyed the website and the free gifts I downloaded for review. My son needs an outlet and journaling would not only give him that, but make writing a fun part of his day also.
